artshuttle blogs

Nobody can say that we are not open to new technologies. We have now introduced some kind of blog – obviously tailor-made for artshuttle. Those of you who know us are aware of the fact that we always work independently. Therefore, we will not restrict lisbonblog to the beautiful aspects of Portuguese life. We will also write about certain peculiarities that travellers in general should only perceive as slightly “unusual” or “somewhat different”. Well, it is not our job to let you see everything through rose-tinted glasses. We would like to look behind the scenes and to introduce you to Portugal in a way that no glossy magazine could ever do. To put it frankly: Portugal is different! However, different in a way that makes it (virtually) impossible not to love the country!Lisbon, the “beauty“ or, “Those who have not seen Lisbon, have not seen true beauty“ are two popular sayings - both with a lot of truth in them. Lisbon is utterly fascinating and the only European capital by the sea. Being the poorest country in Western Europe, Portugal is nevertheless equipped with an abundance of charm and splendour - unlike any other country in Europe. Well, I certainly don’t know all the beaches in Europe – and not even all the beaches in Portugal – but those I do know in this country are truly fantastic! It is not necessary to be packed on the beaches of the Algarve like sardines –
on 800 kilometres of coastline, even independent travellers will strike lucky. However, that doesn’t mean that you can expect the same emotional flights of fancy in the beach bars and restaurants as when you are watching the sunset on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. Contrasts make this country tick and you can sense its charm during dinner in a small restaurant bathed in fluorescent light, where the waiter is seemingly more interested in the current football programme on the TV-screen in the corner of the restaurant than in his guests.

Lisbon is certainly worth a trip. We would like to introduce you to the temptations of this city and feed you with stories – ‘Arabian Nights’ from a country that has not taken the jump from a development country to a modern European country yet. In fact, the country has stronger roots in Africa and Latin America – it is simply deliciously exotic.

Let’s stick to food for a moment: In our lisbonblog, we would like to shed a bit of light on the Portuguese cuisine. It is certainly not as bad as its reputation, but is sometimes perceived as being highly overpriced by travellers. They do exist – those good small restaurants with a genuine, down-to-earth cuisine. Unfortunately, there aren’t many of them, but we will find them for you.

Football, food, and fatherland: no matter what it is – we are in a highly emotional country, a unique country with an identity that seems to be firmly rooted in the past. An identity that is very powerful, yet still seems to be caught in its own past.
